Total Fire Solutions was founded in 1999 with strong family ethics and a hard-working culture. Today, we are Australia’s largest privately owned fire protection company specialising in the mining and heavy industry sectors. Over 25 years, we have grown to more than 200 staff. We now service clients from nine locations nationwide.

What is AS1851?
Fire safety begins with preparedness, and the Australian Standard AS1851: Routine Service of Fire Protection Systems and Equipment sets the benchmark. This national standard ensures that all fire protection systems are regularly maintained, tested, and ready to perform when needed. This make it both a legal and ethical requirement for building owners and managers.
Why AS1851 Matters
Introduced in 1989 and updated to reflect advances in building design and technology, AS1851 provides the framework for routine inspection and maintenance. It covers essential systems such as fire extinguishers, sprinklers, hoses, detection systems, water tanks, pumps, gas suppression, blankets, and emergency signage. The goal is simple, to ensure reliability, compliance, and readiness at all times.
An Annual Fire Safety Statement (AFSS) is a legal document that certifies a building’s compliance with fire safety regulations and standards. It provides proof that essential fire safety measures have been installed, inspected, and maintained in line with regulatory requirements.
Since the 1st of July 2020, building owners must engage an Accredited Practitioner (Fire Safety) to conduct a comprehensive assessment of their Essential Fire Safety Measures (EFSM). This ensures buildings remain compliant, safe, and aligned with government standards.
